Musette bags at The General Classification
Musettes bags are small, lightweight bags used in road cycling, particularly during long races, to hand out food and drink to riders while they are on the move. In designated feeding zones, team staff members hold out the bags for riders to grab without stopping, a process requiring skill to avoid crashes or losing momentum. Typically containing energy bars, gels, sandwiches, fruit, and drinks tailored to the rider’s needs, out musettes are made from 100% cotton and feature a long strap for easy carrying. Historically simple cloth bags, they have evolved for better ergonomics and efficiency. Musettes also hold cultural significance, often becoming collector’s items and showcasing team branding.
